Sept 11, 2001 – Hijackers flew AA flight 11 into the North tower of the World Trade Center in NYC at 8:46am.
I was home on Long Island, 21 years old, had college classes later that day. I woke up confused, staring at the news. Went downstairs to see my family glued to the TV.
Hijackers flew UA flight 175 into the South tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03am.
Later, we hear a loud bang on the door. My aunt and cousin escaped the city right before they closed the bridges and visited us.I’m forever grateful. Not everyone was so lucky.
We live about 15 miles from NYC. I remember stepping out of my front door, looking west, and seeing the huge black clouds of smoke. It was unbelievable.
A week or so later, I went to the city to help my aunt put up a missing person flyer for her childhood friend.
I’ll never forget that day; there was a sea of missing person posters and photos. So much smoke in the air; dust everywhere. It was apocalyptic.
